Role: Designer & Merchandiser – Tiles & Surfaces
Purpose of the Role
To shape distinctive, market-relevant surface collections by combining design thinking, global trend intelligence, and merchandising discipline, from concept to commercial launch.
Key Responsibilities
Creative Conceptualisation & Design Leadership
Conceive design concepts that balance creative expression, brand identity, and commercial relevance
Define design directions for new collections, finishes, formats, and application contexts
Develop mood boards, material stories, colour palettes, and visual narratives that clearly articulate creative intent
Champion concept-led innovation, moving beyond incremental design updates to create differentiated collections
Market Intelligence & Strategic Design Insight
Track emerging global design, architectural, and interior trends relevant to tiles and surfaces
Study consumer behaviour, lifestyle shifts, and category white spaces to identify new design opportunities
Translate international influences into locally relevant, manufacturable design solutions
Provide strategic input on collection architecture and product differentiation
Design Execution & Merchandising Alignment
Convert concepts into production-ready designs using industry-standard design tools and software
Collaborate with marketing, sales, and merchandising teams to align design with go-to-market requirements
Ensure visual and conceptual consistency across collections while allowing room for innovation
Project Ownership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Manage multiple design and merchandising projects simultaneously with strong organisational rigour
Present concepts, samples, and design rationale with clarity, confidence, and conviction
Integrate feedback constructively while safeguarding design intent and brand coherence
Own timelines, deliverables, and coordination across internal and external stakeholders
What This Role Requires
Strong conceptual thinking paired with a deep understanding of materials, surfaces, and production constraints
A sharp eye for design trends, colour, texture, and finish
Ability to think like a designer and a merchandiser, creative yet market-aware
High standards of execution, communication, and collaboration
· Bachelor's or Master's degree in Design from renowned institutes such as NID or equivalent
· NID graduates with 3-4 years work experience preferred
· 3-4 years of professional design experience in building materials, interior surfaces, or related industries
· Portfolio demonstrating conceptual depth, creative originality, and commercial sensibility
· Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
· Advanced skills in CorelDRAW and vector-based design
· Working knowledge of 3D visualization software (SketchUp, Blender, or similar)
